¿What Defines Vetusta Wines?

At Bodegas Vetusta, we craft terroir-driven wines from exceptional grapes that have a lot of character.

Our high-altitude wines come from our own vineyards, located in elevated regions of Ribera del Duero, featuring diverse soils that contribute complexity, character and uniqueness to our wines.

Our wines are elegant and genuine, showcasing the true essence of the grape. We focus on highlighting the exceptional quality of our grapes, resulting in wines that are both distinctive and refined.

¿What makes our wines different??

1.

We select unique soils for our vineyards

2.

We nurture our vineyards with organic practices, prioritising soil health, promoting biodiversity, and respecting the surrounding ecosystem.

In return, the vines yield more expressive grapes, allowing us to produce authentic, high-quality wines with organic certification.

3.

We prioritise quality over quantity by controlling grape yield per hectare, ensuring that each wine is crafted to the highest standards.

4.

We carefully hand-harvest our grapes in 15 kg boxes, selecting the best fruit in the field and transporting it to the winery in perfect condition, where we conduct a second selection.

At the winery, we crush and de-stem the grapes and initiate a fully controlled fermentation process. We continuously monitor the temperature and use an inert atmosphere to prevent oxidation. Additionally, we use native wild yeasts found on our own grapes.

This meticulous approach ensures that we preserve the unique character of the high-quality fruit we have picked from our vineyards.

5.

We age our wines with great respect for the fruit, ensuring that the wood adds aromas and complexity without masking or overshadowing the freshness, flavours and aromas of the grape.

For us, the specific number of months a wine spends in the barrel is not a priority, rather, we age the wine in oak based on its evolution. Our goal is to create high-quality wines, rather than adhere to specific regulations or guidelines.

Our customers’ opinions

Vetusta Crianza

Vetusta Crianza is our flagship wine, the first we ever crafted, and the one that most authentically represents the diversity of our soils and vineyards.

To create Vetusta Crianza, we select the finest grapes from our diverse plots, each situated in regions with unique soils. This careful blending results in a wine rich in nuances, with exceptional balance, and a true reflection of the land it comes from.

Aged for approximately 12 months in oak barrels, Vetusta Crianza showcases the roundness and complexity imparted by the wood, while preserving the vibrant fruit and distinctive character of the grapes.

This wine is certified with an organic seal, reflecting our commitment to cultivating our vineyards organically and preserving the natural richness and biodiversity of the Ribera del Duero.

Vetusta Viñas de Fuentenebro

Viñas de Fuentenebro is an organic wine that showcases a distinctive mineral quality and acidity, characteristic of the grapes from our vineyards in Fuentenebro—a region in Ribera del Duero that has gained considerable acclaim in recent years for its unique soils.

This terroir-driven wine is crafted from grapes sourced from two distinct plots: El Bosque and El Carrascalón.

El Bosque features a soil rich in pebbles and an acidic pH, which is quite rare in Ribera del Duero. El Carrascalón boasts a red clay soil with numerous pebbles composed of various minerals.

We harvest the grapes early, when the fruit has turned red but is still less mature, preserving its freshness and vigor to create a youthful, refreshing wine that maintains the vibrant expression of red fruit.

In the winery, we age the wine separately in different vessel types—stainless steel, concrete, and wood, allowing each component to develop its unique characteristics. We then blend these to achieve a harmonious balance while retaining the distinctive features of Fuentenebro’s grapes.

Vetusta Tempranillo de hielo (ice wine)

This is the first ice wine made from Tempranillo grapes in our region.

This sweet, limited-production wine showcases Bodegas Vetusta’s innovative spirit.

To create this unique offering, we harvest the grapes at the end of November, during the first nocturnal frosts. Once in the winery, we press the grapes at -11ºC and ferment the juice for 3-4 months, resulting in a truly distinctive and exceptional dessert wine.

Vetusta Carrascalón Alto

Vetusta Carrascalón Alto is an exceptional single-vineyard wine, marking our first Grand Cru. Crafted exclusively from grapes grown in the Carrascalón Alto plot, situated at 1,000 meters above sea level, this vineyard is distinguished by its unique red clay soil, which imparts a remarkable character to the wine.

Carrascalón Alto is known for its great aromatic complexity and refined elegance on the palate. It showcases the distinctive acidity derived from the stony and mineral-rich soils of this exceptional plot.

The wine undergoes barrel ageing for approximately 15 months, meticulously preserving the fruit’s integrity. This careful process ensures that the extraordinary character of the grapes from this unique vineyard shines through in Vetusta Carrascalón Alto.

Vetusta Albillo Mayor

Vetusta Albillo Mayor is an exclusive white wine aged in oak barrels.

Its exclusivity lies in its rarity, as we produce only a limited number of bottles from this enological gem, using Albillo Mayor grapes, a native variety of Ribera del Duero.
