The story
Bodegas Vetusta begins when, in 1998, we decided to start planting vineyards and revive the winemaking tradition of our family and our village.
At this point, it might seem like a story similar to many other wineries in Ribera del Duero.
However, where we chose to plant our vineyards set us apart, as does our family’s ongoing commitment to generating wealth in the region.
The origin
Our name, Vetusta, means “ancient” and reflects our desire to preserve and reclaim the tradition, wisdom and experience of the communities that, long before us, planted and cultivated vines in Tejares, our village and throughout the Ribera del Duero region.
They did so by plowing and working the land organically, without using systemic products for fertilisation or pest and disease control. They accomplished this without the tools and machinery we have today.
They also built wineries with very limited means, but with great effort and ingenuity, to craft and keep their wines fresh. They left us a precious legacy that we at Bodegas Vetusta are committed to valuing and preserving. By blending this heritage with modern advancements and technology, we strive to create high-quality wines that honor the naturalness, authenticity, and essence of our land.
That’s why our name, Vetusta, is accompanied by a symbol: an ancient stone press used in winemaking, which we still preserve in Tejares, our family’s village.
